Miss Kobs is super excited about having you in class this year! Please feel free to ask questions or come in for help at anytime. Agriculture is vital as it provides our food, fiber, fuel, and all basics of life! This year you will explore the many opportunities and implications that agriculture has for you now and in the future.
Classroom Policy
All students are to live with integrity and be responsible for their actions. Being kind and understanding of all students is necessary. The student is in charge of his or her own learning. High standards in work ethic and behavior are expected.
**Plagiarism and cheating – Don’t pass off something you find on the Internet as your own. Cite your sources. Do your own work and try harder the next time to get it in on time and to the best of your ability. On the first offence you get one chance to redo the assignment for half credit. The second offence means zero with no chance to redo.
**See the school handbook for the grading policy and other school rules. More classroom policies can be found attached to this handout.
Parent Information
- Our main FFA reminders will be over the website/app called Remind. Please make sure that your current email and cell phone number are listed below. Miss Kobs will put your number/address into the app (totally anonymous) and it will ask you to join the class. After that, all messages that are sent out for parents you should get by email or text message.
- Miss Kobs’s preferred method of communication with parents is email or texting. You are welcome to call her cell if needed, but the best way to contact her is by email. Again, please make sure that your current email is listed below. If you do not have an email address, please make sure you have your current phone number listed and write a note about your contact specifics.
- By signing this form, you are giving permission for your child to take part in all classroom and FFA activities. This includes movies, dissections, field trips, contests, labs, etc. If you ever have a question, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Kobs promptly before the event.
- Miss Kobs will try her hardest to help every child with his/her individual needs. If your son/daughter has any concerns that need to be addressed (IEP, disorder, illness, class issue, personal problem, etc.), please let Miss Kobs know. Everyone is busy and has too many balls to juggle, so please be proactive in letting any issues be resolved before they become big problems. Miss Kobs will try her best to be open and honest with you at all times.
- All class information, curriculum, and FFA study materials and dates will be located on Canvas. If you would like to access that information, please set up a parent/observer account on Canvas. Otherwise, you will need to hold your child responsible for updating you on upcoming projects and events.
THS FFA has an account on Twitter (called THS FFA). If you would like to see pictures of current classroom or FFA happenings, please follow us!
Ag Room Policies and Procedures
- Miss Kobs will say “HEY!” when it is time to sit down and get to work. You will repeat it back to her and start your work (or be quiet so Miss Kobs can talk). She should not have to repeat it.
- The first 3-5 minutes are yours to prepare for class. This is your time to finish using the restroom over the passing period, stretch, fill out your planner, ask another student a question, find a charger for your computer, etc. Once class starts, there shouldn’t be any questions or actions not related to the content of the class.
- We have a NO cellphone policy in Miss Kobs’s room. Therefore, put your phone in the basket at the front of the room at the beginning of the period. If you have it out during class, Miss Kobs will take it and you won’t get it back until the end of the day. If you have to make a phone call or text someone, you have those few minutes at the beginning of class to do that. If you have an emergency or something truly important to attend to, then ask Miss Kobs and she might let you use your phone if it is not a distraction.
- You have the passing period to use the restroom. Therefore, please do not ask to use the bathroom during class unless it is an absolute emergency.
- All book bags and purses will be placed on the floor. As long as your computer bag is not open, it will be allowed to be on the table if it is not a distraction.
- If you are being disrespectful or a disturbance, you will get one warning and your name will be written on the board. If you continue that behavior, then you will get a detention (over lunch or before or after school). If you still continue the behavior or don’t show up for detention, you will go to the office.
- No cussing is tolerated. There also will be no talking bad about others or complaining about your work. Hats will not be worn while in the school building.
- You will put everything you borrow back where you found it and in the right container. If something is not yours, do not take it, mark on it, or touch it without asking.
- Please do not sit on the desks or lean back in the chairs. Throwing anything in the room unless directed by Miss Kobs will not be tolerated.
- If you get done early with your work, then you are expected to work diligently on other homework or study for an upcoming quiz or FFA contest. Sitting there on your phone or talking to a neighbor is not using your time wisely.
- All classroom books are located in the back closet. If our activity requires a book, you are expected to get up and get one right away. The light is just to the left of the door on the outside of the closet.
Miss Kobs has the right to change or add any policies at any time throughout the year.
